Sean Phelps I am truly Sorry about your loss and Thanks for sharing with us your horrible experience, this should have never happened in the first place, you requested them to perform a test and they didn’t and by them not performing a test that you was going to pay for caused your baby to be put through a lot. I’m very saddened by this and that is why I invested more of my money to keep this site up.
BEWARE OF VETS IN MUSKOGEE
by Sean Phelps on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 7:15pm
Only read if your a pet owner or pet lover, very long but i need to vent and warn you about vets.
My sweet 4 yr. old chihuahua just died after surgery to remove intestinal blockage. I am very sad and angry because I took her to our Vet Dr. Jamoson of Northside Veterinary in Muskogee across from Wal-Mart after 3 days of not eating so…
week 1- Thursday, she said her lack of eating and vomiting was due to upset tummy and kidney infection (Fecal float only not another test was done to conclude infection). I mentioned repeatedly could she have blockage due to her loving to chew things and my research on the internet she showed concluded signs of blockage symptoms, I was told no.
The next day Friday returned to vet more shots to “settle her tummy” asked for blood work they refused and I mentioned blockage again they insisted it was kidney infection. She still not eating 4-5 days. Pissed me off Dr. Jamason spent all of about 2 min. with my dog at the most. Wouldn’t even see her on Friday I dealt with Asst. who relayed between us. Saturday called my dads vet Dr. Blake in Muskogee for a 2nd opinion took her in on Monday began Pedialite on Saturday to keep MerMer hydrated and syringe feeding baby food. Profuse vomiting all this time.
On Monday starting week 2 of vomiting and still force feeding with syringe we took her to Blake she done urinalysis to conclude no Kidney infection, fecal test found fibers in stool she said she had upset tummy gave shots for it. Told us to keep up what we were doing she would start eating. Even after finding fiber this vet concluded there was no way there would be blockage because there was no Profuse diarrhea.
4 days pass Friday I take MerMer to Blake and order her to Blood testing and hospitalize her so they could see for there-self what was happening. Now my dog hasn’t eaten on her own for 11-12 days but is still very well hydrated. Dr. Blake does bloodwork and get results on Saturday says white cell are to high indicating infection, glucose high but not unusual for stressed dog,and possible thyroid issue, however she was well hydrated hadn’t vomited all weekend but they still couldn’t get her to eat. I once again mention possibility of any blockage she said no. She wanted to keep an “eye on her till Monday she called Sunday with another update same as the other update. Monday. I truly felt like I could trust this doctor.
Monday morning i call vet Blakes Asst said she could go home at 2pm She was fine would likely start to eat once home and in her environment.
Something felt very wrong so I again brought up blockage I actually seemed to upset them because there tone became agitated.
I immediately called Dr. Synar “my in-laws vet” told them the story and they said bring her in. Took MerMer straight from Blakes office to Synars in Muskogee. Took about 10 min drive time. She was so severely DEHYDRATED he had to sedate her begin pain meds and Xrays of course there was BLOCKAGE. Today he called us said she had 20% chance of surviving the surgery. We took the chance he had to remove 1 foot of her intestine because the blockage was in her so long, if this was caught sooner her chances could have been very different.
We went and visited with her while in recovery she wagged her tail when she felt our touch and voice. She was faced away so she couldn’t see us but she tried to lift head to see us.
My baby Mer Mer died today at 4pm.
PLEASE if your a pet owner always go with your gut feeling and don’t trust these 2 Vets, Dr Jamoson Or Dr. Blake. I spent money and time trusting them only to have it hurt my dog. If you do use these vets please understand this was my experience my family members have also used them for shot, spaying, neutering, nail clipping , nothing serious. Both of these vets never would consider the possibility of blockage. I just want you to be aware and beware!
Even though I lost my beloved MerMer, Dr. Synar treated us with compassion and wasted not 1 second finding out what was wrong with my baby. Also we gave him Cart-blonch on the money I didn’t care what the cost it could have been 5,000 and I would have spent it. The bill was only 450.00 thats only 120.00 more than the other vets combine and that’s with blood work, multiple xrays, hospitalization ,pain meds, IV fluids, sonogram, sedation and 1 hour surgery.
Oh the blockage was some type of fiber like found in her stool at Blakes.
BE VERY AWARE stringy toys, rugs with fringe anything stringy dogs could chew THROW AWAY these items and all blockage must be removed within a couple days not 3 weeks always GO WITH YOUR GUT!!!!!
I wish I had
Rest in peace my baby Merceedes MerMer Phelps you will be missed but Never ever forgotten. Give me a hug ” she would litterally hug her neck around yours if you asked for a hug.
